According to local reports, at least 60 women and girls and 31 boys were abducted this weekend in northeastern Nigeria. Witnesses have blamed Boko Haram, the Islamist militant group that kidnapped over 270 schoolgirls in Chibok in April.

According to The New York Times, the women, girls, and boys were taken from the village of Kummabza. Reports indicate that at least 30 people were killed during the attack. Elderly residents fled the village to get help, but women with children and babies were kidnapped, per The Los Angeles Times.

Earlier this month, Boko Haram reportedly kidnapped 20 girls in the village of Garkin Fulani.

The Nigerian government has had no luck battling Boko Haram so far. While some abducted girls have managed to escape the militants, the vast majority of the schoolgirls taken in April remain in captivity. Boko Haram militants want the Nigerian government to release extremist prisoners in exchange for the girls, but President Goodluck Jonathan has so far refused. Nigeria's military claims that while it knows the location of the kidnapped girls, a rescue mission would result in their deaths.

In addition to the kidnappings, militants have launched repeated attacks on villages in northeastern Nigeria. Last week, a suicide bomber killed 14 people at a World Cup viewing site. Witnesses blamed the attack on Boko Haram.
