Bounty Hunters Mistakenly Raid Police Chief's Home, Oops
Damn, dude: Acting on a bad Facebook tip, an Arizona bail bondsmen and his team surrounded the home of Phoenix Police Chief Joseph Yahner on Tuesday, believing a fugitive to be inside, Reuters reports.
In a video of their fuck-up, Chief Yahner can be seen answering the door in his underwear armed with a baton while NorthStar Fugitive Recovery owner Brent Farley demands to see “Roderick.” From NBC News:
“[Yahner] was sleeping so he was concerned at first,” [police spokesperson Trent] Crump told NBC News. “But a 30-year law enforcement veteran in the 6th largest city in America can handle himself.”
The recovery teams told police they were ambushing the residence based on a tip the Northstar Fugitive Recovery had received on Facebook, a page that has since been removed.
“This particular instance was them failing to confirm or vet the information that could have been found by googling the address,” Crump said.
According to police, Farley was ordered to leave the property but refused until a fellow bounty hunter pulled him aside. Responding officers then arrested Farley for criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct.
Speaking to AZCentral.com, a NorthStar employee said the objectively enormous blunder had been “all blown out of proportion.”
