Bride-To-Be And Best Man Presumed Dead After Hudson River Boat Crash
A bride-to-be and her fiancé's best man are missing and presumed dead after their boat crashed into a barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge last night. Four others, including the groom, 35-year-old Brian Bond, survived and are in the hospital with severe injuries.
The group crashed their 21-foot Stingray speedboat into a construction barge around 10:40 p.m. The impact threw the bride, 30-year-old Lindsey Stewart, and best man, Mark Lennon, into the water.
Authorities had been searching for the two since last night, using dive teams, vessels and air support until about 1 a.m., when they suspended the search until the morning. Police are now saying that "the rescue mission has turned into a recovery."
Police say the cause of the crash is unknown, and a witness said that the surviving boaters seemed disoriented and unsure of what had happened.
The couple were supposed to marry on August 10.
