Last summer, the NYPD dragged a half-naked Brooklyn woman out of her apartment in handcuffs. Now, the New York Daily News reports, Denise Stewart, 49, has filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city and the police department.

At 11:45 pm on July 13th, 2014, cops investigating a 911 call reporting a bottle thrown out of a window of Stewart’s building on Kings Highway in Brooklyn knocked on Stewart’s door. She had just been in the shower and was only wearing a towel and underwear when they arrested her and removed her towel, the suit, filed in Brooklyn Federal Court on Thursday, alleges.

“What they did to her is an affront to all women, especially women of color,” said Stewart’s lawyer, Amy Rameau.

“They made up a story that [Stewart] pulled off her clothes and said, ‘I’ll fight you all,’” Rameau said. “She’s suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diabetes, and she’s incapable of fighting them.”

Stewart is still facing misdemeanor charges in connection with the incident, including assault, for biting a cop on the hand, the Daily News reports.

The NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau cleared the arresting officers of any wrongdoing following an investigation opened when the Daily News broke the story last year.
