NPR is reporting that Tom Magliozzi, one of the two hosts of the wildly popular public radio show Car Talk, has passed away at 77, of complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Magliozzi and his brother Ray hosted Car Talk for 35 years as Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers. The news of Tom's death was sent in a note to NPR from Car Talk executive producer Doug Berman on Monday:

"I have the sad duty to report today that Tom Magliozzi, one of the hosts of Car Talk, passed away this morning due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

"Tom's been such a dominant, positive personality amongst us for so long that all of us in the public radio family — and I include our millions of listeners — will find this news very difficult to receive."

Car Talk has been on air since 1977, when it launched on WBUR in Boston. It was soon after picked up by NPR, and lasted until 2012, when the brothers retired.

WBUR has announced that they will host a special rebroadcast of Car Talk tonight at 9 p.m. and a memorial tribute will air on Saturday, November 8 at 11 a.m.
