The head of the CDC anthrax lab, Michael Farrell, resigned Tuesday after his employees were exposed to live anthrax last month. That's probably a good thing, since the CDC already closed the lab.

Farrell hasn't commented on last month's incident, where the lab did not completely kill anthrax samples before sending them to other labs. No one got sick, but dozens of employees were exposed. The Associated Press notes that "an internal investigation found serious safety lapses, including use of an unapproved sterilization technique and use of a potent type of anthrax in an experiment that did not require a live form of the germ."

CDC spokesman Tom Skinner told the AP that Farrell won't be doing any interviews. Farrell's LinkedIn page shows he started working as a lab director in 2009.
