Ted Cruz shocked a nation last night when he became the first man in history to fail at pandering to an Indiana crowd with a reference to Hoosiers.

Cruz, who referred, for some reason, to a “basketball ring,” is not favored to win the Republican presidential nomination. If he manages to pull that off, he is not favored to win the presidency. But never, ever count out a scrappy underdog, as Gene Hackman taught us in the film Heist, and also, probably, in the film Hoosiers, which I have not seen.
