The popular Christian vlogger couple Sam and Nia Rader have had a real whirlwind of a week. First, Sam posted a video in which he “surprised” Nia with her own positive pregnancy test by stealing some of her urine from the toilet; that video went viral, and then three days later, the couple posted a video announcing that Nia miscarried. The Raders now say that after sharing this unbelievable story with the world, they have been getting some “hate comments” from “haters” sipping that “Haterade.”

In a new vlog that shows the couple excitedly opening fan mail—someone sent them a book about miscarriage!—and going to Starbucks®, Sam takes a few minutes to address the haters hating on his wife’s miscarriage directly. “I know it may seem like I’m giving a little too much attention to the people that’s drinking the ‘Haterade’ out there,” he begins, “But I have one final statement for them, ‘kay, and that’s it.”

Here it is:

The un-acceptance that this world has shown our family has actually been a blessing to me. Let me explain. ...[I]t seems as though the media out there, all the articles being written about us, are trying to put us in a bad light for the most part. And I feel like those are the ones that represent the world. And it makes me think of the verse John 15:19: “If you are of the world, the world will love you as its own. But because you are not of the world, but I have chose you from the world, the world hates you.”

I just think that’s so amazing. “Because I chose you, the world hates you.” God told us we’re going to be hated, so what we’re seeing right now is god’s will being played out for our lives as Christians. We’re being persecuted somewhat.

Eyes wild, Sam continues, insisting that this perceived persecution is actually a good thing:

This is what god told us is going to happen, so I can’t help but let it excite me. Every time I read these articles, not a single article has got me down. In fact, I’m laughing about them, for the most part. It’s just like this huge reminder that god chose our family, so we’re getting this hatred. That’s just what comes with being a Christian and being a god-filled family.

Sam never explains what, exactly, god “chose” for his family. An extremely brief pregnancy? YouTube fame? The backlash that comes with manipulating viewers for non-skippable ad views? Doesn’t matter, here’s another bible verse:

Okay guys, I’ve got to read you one more verse, and then I’ll be done preaching. So this is 2 Timothy 3:12: “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from the bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.”

Brave to use a verse about deceit in this context. And then...try to explain it...

So the world is choosing to be deceived, and there’s nothing we can do about it. That’s why I’m not trying to defend myself to anybody. Anybody who asks me, “Was it fake?”—I don’t even feel like responding to it, but no, it wasn’t fake. That’s pretty much all I’ll say.

Or like one interviewer asked me, “Was it all staged?”—A lot of people think it was staged. I’m like, you know what? It was staged. It was all orchestrated by god above and nothing less. I’ll say stuff like that just to kind of throw them off, but it doesn’t make me happy that people are deceived, but it does make me happy that god chose our family out of the world.

So yes, according to Sam, the pregnancy was staged. By god! That’s a little joke from a man grieving his wife’s recent miscarriage. His final message to all those who have been deceived: “Keep it coming, guys! Hit us with your best shot!”
