County of Los Angeles Will Not Charge Bill Cosby With Rape in Two Cases
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced today that it has declined to file charges against Bill Cosby regarding two incidents of alleged rape that happened 43 years apart.
The first alleged assault of an unnamed victim took place in 1965. L.A. prosectors will not charge Cosby in that case due to the statute of limitations, which for rape cases in California is 10 years.
The second of the two assaults was alleged by Chloe Goins, a 24-year-old who, per the Los Angeles Times, says Cosby raped her at a party at the Playboy Mansion in 2008. Goins stated that she blacked out after accepting a drink from Cosby and woke up to find herself naked on a bed, with the comedian biting her toes and his pants around his ankles. The district attorney’s office decided that there was not enough evidence to charge Cosby in that case, with TMZ reporting that Cosby had an alleged alibi that placed him out of town during the time of the incident.
In December of 2014, Cosby was sued in civil court by a third woman in Los Angeles court who said she was raped by him, also at the Playboy Mansion, in 1974. Prosecutors declined to press charges in that case, again because of the statute of limitations.
