Claire Davis, Colorado School Shooting Victim, Dies
Late yesterday afternoon, 17-year-old Claire Davis died from injuries suffered during this month's shooting at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo. Davis had been on life support for the past eight days after being shot from point-blank range by a shotgun wielded by shooter Karl Pierson.
Davis was sitting in a hallway near the school's north entrance when Pierson entered and shot her. He then made his way into the library and committed suicide. According to police in Colorado, Davis is believed to be a random victim who knew Pierson but who was not friends with him. Earlier in the week, One Direction — Davis' favorite group — recorded a short get-well video in her honor.
Despite earlier reports of two victims, Davis was the only student harmed in the attack. Pierson came to the school looking for Arapahoe's debate coach and librarian, who had recently demoted Pierson from the debate team.
Centennial is about 20 minutes from Aurora, Colo., where James Holmes killed 12 people in a movie theatre in 2012.
