Dave Chappelle's Return to Hartford Went a Lot Better Than Last Year
Dave Chappelle made a surprise return this weekend to the Oddball Comedy Festival in Hartford, Conn.—the same festival where he cut his headline set short last year because the audience wouldn't stop heckling him. Needless to say, it went a lot better this time.
Coming out after Louis C.K., Chappelle opened by addressing last year's show and the "retarded" audience that ruined it.
"I did not think I would ever come back to Hartford again," he said, reminding everyone that he printed up "Fuck Hartford" T-shirts shortly after that night, and they were great sellers.
And "Fuck Hartford" is still his basic position, even though this weekend's audience was much better. He closed with this: "Since that fateful night last year, I've done 150 shows. All of them went well. I say that to say this, in case the media's watching: It was your fault."
Congratulations to Hartford, Conn., on finally making it through an entire Chappelle set without shouting "I'm Rick James, bitch!"
