In a notably unhinged press conference Wednesday, Donald Trump explicitly requested Russia hack more email accounts belonging to a former Secretary of State, just minutes after denying that Russia was involved in the hack at all.

Trump, who unwillingly yielded the press’s attention this week to the DNC, scheduled the impromptu press conference from Doral, Florida, where he owns a golf course. Veering wildly from topic to topic, Trump declared “David Hinckley should not have been freed,” in apparent reference to John Hinckley and joked that, “Anthony Weiner is locked in a room and they will not let him out,” to explain why he believes Weiner’s wife and long-time Clinton aide Huma Abedin should be fired. But his most treasonous request involved Russian hackers.

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” he said, looking directly into the cameras. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

His insane request—that a foreign adversary hack a United States citizen—was made all the more outrageous by the fact that just minutes before he’d denied Russia’s involvement, suggesting that Chinese hackers promulgated the DNC hack.

But there was, in fact, a silver lining. Trump later explained he would only outsource the job to Russia because he doesn’t currently have the power to hack Clinton himself.

“I wish I had that power,” Trump said. “I’d love to have that power”

No kidding.
