Donald Trump Seems to Admit Using the Word "Negotiable" in Off-The-Record New York Times Recording
Last night Donald Trump addressed and contested, in part, a BuzzFeed report about a series of off-the-record remarks he allegedly made to the editorial board of the New York Times indicating he may be more flexible about immigration than his harsh campaign rhetoric has suggested.
The report, published yesterday, alleges the Times is in possession of a recording of Donald Trump, in an off-the-record discussion, calling “into question whether he would stand by his own immigration views,” which hinge on plans to ban Muslims from the country and build a ten foot wall paid for by Mexico.
Trump addressed the allegations last night during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News. Calling the Times “the most dishonest media group,” Trump acknowledged that he spoke with the board off-the-record. He seems to admit he used the word “negotiable,” but specifically denied indicating he was willing to negotiate on whether or not to build a wall.
“Of course they leaked it. The most dishonest media group. It’s also failing. I call it the failing New York Times. It is doing so badly, it’s dying. But I did. We had a board meeting, it was off-the-record, all of the sudden they leak it, it’s all over the place,” Trump said.
“They said it’s negotiable on the wall,” Hannity said.
“By the way, it is negotiable. Things are negotiable. I’ll be honest with you, you know, I’ll make the wall two feet shorter or something. I mean, everything is negotiable,” Trump said.
“It’s not negotiable about building it?” Hannity asked.
“No. Building it? Not negotiable.”
Both Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have called on Trump to ask the Times to release the tape. Trump has, so far, declined to publicly address their request.
