At a campaign rally in Cincinnati on Wednesday, Donald Trump defended a since-deleted image sent from his Twitter account that was widely criticized as anti-Semitic, saying that his staff “should have left it up” and his critics are guilty of “racially profiling, not us.”
“My boy comes home from school, Baron, he draws stars all over the place, I never said, ‘Oh, that’s the Star of David, Baron, don’t!’” said Trump. “And it actually looks like a sheriff’s star, but I don’t know. And behind it they had money. ‘Oh, but there’s money behind!’ So actually, they’re racially profiling.”
Trump made the comments while criticizing the press in general and CNN in particular, which he claimed unfairly gave him negative coverage this week while ignoring the email scandal of Hillary Clinton, who, according to Trump, is crooked as a “you-know-what.”
“So you have the star, which is fine,” continued Trump. “Y’know they took the star down. I said, ‘Too bad, you should have left it up.’ I would have rather defended it, just leave it up, and say, ‘No, that’s not a Star of David. That’s just a star!’”
