Elizabeth Warren Endorses Hillary Clinton, Suggests Openness to VP Role
On The Rachel Maddow Show Thursday night, Senator Elizabeth Warren endorsed presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and expressed her preparedness to serve as commander-in-chief if elected Vice President.
“I’m ready in this fight for Hillary Clinton to become the next President of the United States,” said Warren, “and to make sure that Donald Trump doesn’t get anyplace close to the White House.”
According to the Boston Globe, Warren already planned to publicly back Clinton next week, but rescheduled following President Obama’s endorsement Thursday afternoon. More surprising was Warren’s apparent willingness on Thursday to serve as Clinton’s running mate after a primary season where her silence was seen as tacit support for rival Bernie Sanders.
Asked by Maddow if she thought she was ready to serve as President in the event of a tragedy if chosen as Clinton’s running mate, Warren said simply, “I do.”
