Five Infants From Chicago-Area Daycare Diagnosed With Measles
Authorities in Illinois are investigating a "cluster of measles" at a Chicago-area daycare. Five infants who attended a KinderCare Learning Center in Palatine have been diagnosed with the resurgent disease, the most recent outbreak of which has infected more than 100 people across the country.
Staff, students, and parents from the daycare have been instructed to stay home and away from unvaccinated people for the next 21 days, according to NBC Chicago. The infants are all too young to have been vaccinated.
Since December, more than 100 people have been diagnosed with measles following an outbreak at Disneyland in California. Last month, one case was confirmed Illinois; in the past five years, just 10 cases of the contagious disease had been diagnoses in the state. It's unclear if the "cluster" at the daycare is related to the Disneyland outbreak.
