An attack on a school in Donetsk, Ukraine, today left four people dead, none of them children, the BBC reports, and a separate shelling of a minivan nearby appears to have killed six others.

Donetsk, in eastern Ukraine, is controlled largely by pro-Russian separatists. According to the Ukrainian-controlled regional government, rebels used rocket launchers in the attack, but Andrei Purgin, leader of the Donetsk People's Republic separatist movement, claimed that Ukrainian forces were to blame.

The dead at the school included a parent and a biology teacher, and Reuters reporters saw the bodies of six others in a "burnt-out mini-van" several streets away from the school. As Reuters notes, the school is several miles from Donetsk's airport, which rebels have recently attempted to seize from the government.

Today was the first day back to class for students in Donetsk, whose schooling was delayed by fighting in the area. The attack was the latest of several to violate a September ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between rebels and the Ukrainian state.
