Earlier today, Robert Durst waived his right to delay extradition during an appearance in Louisiana court; he will likely return to Los Angeles to face charges of murdering his former friend, Susan Berman, in 2000. However, the extradition may be delayed because of potential local gun charges against Durst.

According to police, Durst had a .38 caliber handgun in his hotel room when he was arrested Saturday night in New Orleans. At a press conference following today's court appearance, Durst's attorneys expressed concern that the 71-year-old may face charges locally.

"We're frustrated because the local authorities are considering filing charges on him here and holding him here," attorney Dick DeGuerin said, according to The Times-Picayune, though he didn't specify what those local charges might be.

UPDATE 10:33 pm: Durst also had a small amount of marijuana in his room, according to police. From the Associated Press:

Louisiana authorities filed weapons charges late Monday charging Durst as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and with having a small amount of marijuana.
