After today's Good Morning America premiere of her music video for "Applause," the real hero of cosplay, Lady Gaga, told George Stephanopoulos, "I really felt like I could be myself in this video." In it, she plays over half a dozen characters including a jester, an apparent emulation of Sandro Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, and a swan with a Gaga head.

This. Is. Gaga.

"My kind of music that I make is the kind you look at," she said of the lead single of her third full-length album, ARTPOP. Indeed, "Applause" sounds much better when you look at it on mute. That way you don't have to hear Gaga say provocative nothings like, "Pop culture was in art, now art’s in pop culture, in me," or have your tooth fillings vibrate from that awful keyboard sound.

The hook — "I live for the applause, applause, applause" — is about the most redundant thing a person in these attention-voracious times could say, especially an entertainer person whose essence is having a swan body and human head. Maybe next time around, Lady Gaga will sing to us about how she sings songs.

They same fame comes at a price, but for enduring Gaga's routine babbling about the nature and condition celebrity with no new insights through three albums (and an EP), it seems like we're the ones who are paying.

Video's kind of pretty, though.
