Hillary Clinton Wins New Jersey, Becomes Presumptiver Democratic Nominee

According to projections by the Associated Press, Hillary Clinton will win Tuesday’s Democratic primary in New Jersey, making her the presumptive Democratic nominee, which, according to the AP, she already was.

Monday night, the AP suddenly announced that Clinton had already met the required delegate total, one day before she was expected to effectively clinch the nomination. Clinton campaign materials reflected this expectation, declaring Tuesday as the day their candidate made history by becoming the first female presidential nominee of a major American political party.

The Bernie Sanders campaign, however, has contended that their candidate will convince enough of Clinton’s unbound superdelegates to change sides before next month to result in a contested party convention.

“Let me talk to you after the primary here in California, where we hope to win,” Sanders told reporters who asked if he’d endorse Clinton Monday evening. “Let’s assess where we are after tomorrow.”
