A 12-year-old boy on vacation in Arkansas with his family found an enormous diamond inside a crater at an Arkansas state park over the weekend, because apparently Arkansas has a state park where people are encouraged to just scratch around inside a giant crater for diamonds until they find them?!?!??! It’s called the “Crater of Diamonds State Park” and it consists of a crater full of diamonds. IT IS A REAL PLACE. Why don’t we all live there?!

Michael Detlaff found the 5.16-carat “honey brown” diamond after spending fewer than ten minutes searching for a giant diamond. He named it the “God’s Glory Diamond,” which is definitely a very cool thing for a 12-year-old to name a rock he found on vacation. (Rejected names include Wicked Fart Diamond and Michael Detlaff, Jr.)

In a press release about the diamond, Park Interpreter Waymon Cox said, “It is thrilling any time a child finds a diamond here at Crater of Diamonds State Park.”

“It is thrilling any time a child finds a diamond," said the man.

“IT IS THRILLING ANY TIME A CHILD FINDS A DIAMOND."

Cox added, “Michael was excited to have found his own diamond, as just about any boy would be,”—MICHAEL WAS EXCITED TO HAVE FOUND HIS OWN DIAMOND, AS JUST ABOUT ANY BOY WOULD BE—“but he was absolutely awestruck when he realized its significance.”

Michael's giant free diamond is the 27th largest diamond found at the site since the state park opened in 1972. It’s the 8th largest brown diamond. IT’S ALSO JUST A GIANT FUCKING DIAMOND THAT MICHAEL FOUND FOR FREE.

So far this year, 12 diamonds have been found in the park. (According to the press release, park policy for all diamonds is “finder-keepers.”)

Visitors of all persuasions are encouraged to use the remaining days of summer to experience the beauty, majesty, and free diamonds of America’s state parks.

It is thrilling any time a child finds a diamond.
