Killers Allegedly Ordered Dominos While They Were Torturing D.C. Family
New information about the harrowing 10-hour hostage situation that preceded the quadruple murder at a multimillion-dollar D.C. home reportedly includes evidence of torture and a quick pizza break.
The bodies of Savvas Savopoulos, his wife Amy, their 10-year-old son Phillip, and the family’s housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa, were all discovered inside the burning home Thursday. Their car was later discovered, also on fire, in a church parking lot a few miles away.
Now, police say, there’s evidence that an assistant working for Savvas—the CEO of America Iron Works—dropped off $40,000 at the home just a few hours before the bodies were discovered. There’s also apparently evidence to suggest the 10-year-old was tortured in an effort to convince his father to secure the money.
Cops say “it’s not clear whether the employee knew what was in the package,” the Washington Post reports.
Information about the money drop adds a new dimension to a perplexing case. Law enforcement officials, who spoke on the condition they not be named because the investigation is ongoing, said detectives believe the family and housekeeper had been held overnight in the home and at one point may have been bound. Authorities said they are investigating whether there are any links to Savopoulos’s business or personal life.
But there was also a second delivery made that day, the Daily Mail reports—pizza.
In a chilling new twist, Daily Mail Online can reveal the killers ordered pizzas to be delivered from a nearby Domino’s while they were holding the four captive in upscale Woodlawn Drive.
Members of staff at the Wisconsin Avenue branch two miles away confirmed they took the order and dispatched the food. The precise time of delivery is still not known.
The pizza chain has not returned calls asking for an official comment.
