I feel ya, but there's a difference The Butler and The Help.
Really there isn't to me. I can't stand any of these rise above movies and I can stand the fact that they are popular even less. Maybe I don't wanna see black people subjugated on screen not because people shouldn't forget but because it has been turned into the Maltese Tiger for Hollywood. They act like making this type of movie is the white mans burden and must be done to help everyone see how the Negroes became people. Desperate housewives cream their jeans to situations that portray the sassy maids and nice gentlemen who stay calm even in the most egregious of affronts. these people couldn't give two flying fucks about the actual black holocaust happening right now in the form of the U.S. prison system that locks up more than slavery ever did and the school to prison pipline. Meanwhile it's easy to ignore because they have a cute movie about some black people dressing up in funny suits and gives white people the illusion they actually have empathy outside their race. Over it.

I agree with much of what you're saying - not all, but most. And I hear you, especially with regards to "the form of the U.S. prison system that locks up more than slavery ever did." But, all I can say is better now than never. Have Hollywood execs been opportunistic over the past couple years with regards to finally releasing some black-oriented films?? ... unquestionably, YES. I would also argue that those execs, with this most recent round of "Black films," have actually stepped their game up quite significantly from the 80s, 90s, 00s.

The best part of this wknd box office is Mortal Instruments came in 4th at 14 million. Bomb! They are about to start shooting the sequel in about 2 weeks. I hope several execs are booted over this.

That's what happens when you make a shitty movie based off a franchise nobody cares about. Same thing happened with The Lone Ranger.

The Lone Ranger had Johnny Depp, the movie was just too shitty for even him to save.
They're all trying to tap into The Hunger Games and Twilight crazes, hoping that lightning will strike again. Next year, Divergent will have its chance to sink or swim.

Just yesterday someone on Jezebel said that Jennifer Aniston should have been picked over Amy Adams for a planned Janis Joplin biopic. I laughed.

So right. All of her movies are terrible (Officespace isn't "her" movie).
"We're the Millers" actually wasn't that bad, but it wasn't great either and I am baffled at its box office. This being a success means that there will be double the amount of Aniston movies in the next couple of years. She'll be living off the residual effects of this movie for the next few years, even though the success of the movie has little to do with her (just check her dismal track record of movie success).
Peeking at her BoxOfficeMojo track record, and this will be her 6th movie to gross over $100 million (including 3 of her last 4 movies). And most of her movies make enough money, relative to their production budgets, to be profitable in the end. I'm not arguing that she's box-office gold, but a lots of actors would be happy with that kind of track record. She's had about as many duds as Paul Rudd and no one's calling for him to call it quits.
