Los Angeles Closes All Public Schools Over "Credible Terror Threat"
More than half a million Los Angeles Unified School District public school students were kept home Tuesday after a district board member received what authorities are describing as a “credible terror threat.”
Details are still scant, but the New York Times reports the bomb threat was left in a phone message for a member of the school board.
“It was many schools, not specifically identified,” school superintendent Ramon Cortines said during a press conference Tuesday. “I am not taking the chance to bring children into any part of the building until I know it is safe.”
Students and teachers were warned to stay home and bus drivers already on route were reportedly called back to their depots. The mandate affects as many as 640,000 students enrolled in the district’s 900 schools.
