Man Crushed to Death While Looking for Lost Phone in Trash Compactor
The body of a man who had been missing from his Palatine, Illinois, home for several hours was found crushed inside his building trash compactor. Police say he had been searching for his lost phone at the time of his death.
Roger Mirro, 56, was reported missing by his wife around 9:30 PM on Tuesday. An investigation revealed that a neighbor had seen Mirro three hours earlier, when he mentioned that his cellphone might have fallen down the trash chute.
Mirro had asked the neighbor if he could borrow the trash room key so he could go look for his phone.
Officers soon entered the trash room to find a ladder resting against the trash compactor. Mirro's body was inside.
A medical examiner's report confirmed that Mirro died from injuries he sustained after being crushed by the compactor, and ruled the death an accident.
