NBC News' chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman, who hasn't been heard from or on-air since breaking the voluntary 21-day quarantine she agreed to after a cameraman on her crew tested positive for Ebola, apologized this morning on NBC's the Today show (synergy!) for "breaking her promise."

"I'm very sorry for not only scaring my community and the country, but adding to the confusion of terms that I think came as fast and furious as the news about Ebola did," Snyderman told Today's Matt Lauer, as convincingly as someone probably compelled to make a public apology for the sake of her continued employment could muster.

The reason she broke the quarantine, she said, was because she was wearing the wrong hat.

"I wear two hats—I have my doctor hat and I have my journalist hat, and when the science and the messaging sometimes collide, and you leave the optics, in this case a hot zone and come back to the United States, good people can make mistakes," Synderman told Lauer. "I stepped outside the boundaries of what I promised to do and what the public expected of me, and for that I'm sorry."
