Novelty Grenade Causes Evacuation of David Petraeus’ Office

In what can only be described as a really bad idea, a friend of General David Petraeus mailed a fake grenade to his office in the Solow Building on 58^th Street.

Unfortunately, Petraeus’ secretary was the one to open the package this afternoon and—after seeing what she thought was a real grenade—called the NYPD.

The building was evacuated and 58^th Street was shut down between 5^th and 6^th Avenues. It was only after the package was investigated in the building’s courtyard that it was determined to be a “novelty item.”

According to NY1, it’s unclear if Petraeus was in the building at the time.
