OK Go's New Optical Illusion Video Will Trompe Your L'oeil
Video production company/rock band OK Go have followed up their famous treadmills and Rube Goldberg machine by running through a maze of brightly-colored optical illusions in a single shot. Everything in the video for "The Writing's on the Wall" is a trick of the eye.
This visual confusion is meant to mirror—oh, yeah, there are plenty of mirrors, too—the lyrics about miscommunication in a relationship that's falling apart.
The band put 3 weeks and 50 takes into this video, which is—for better or worse—what we've come to expect from OK Go. Lead singer Damian Kulash, who formerly resisted the "stunt band" label, has decided to own it.
We could go in two directions: We could either try to out-cool it – try to out-run it like Radiohead did with 'Creep' – or just embrace it and go, OK, what really worked here," he told Rolling Stone.
Sometimes things are what they seem, and that's OK..
OK Go's next album, Hungry Ghosts, drops October 14.
