In bizarre, terrifying video released by the Maplewood, Min. Police Department Wednesday night, 68-year-old Charles Emmett Logan can be seen attacking St. John's Hospital staff with a metal pole as they frantically try to flee. After injuring four nurses, Logan reportedly ran out into the street, was tased by police, and died soon after.
KARE11 reports that four nurses were harmed in the attack: one suffered a collapsed lung and another fractured her wrist. After the attack, Logan was was apparently found three blocks away from the hospital and when he refused to lower the metal pole, police reportedly fired a taser at him, to no avail. Three officers reportedly wrestled Logan to the ground, but he quickly lost consciousness, and after being brought back to the hospital, was pronounced dead.
According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Logan was admitted to the hospital after "recent bouts of confusion and delusions." Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell told the paper that Logan had an argument with his extended family prior to his rampage. The metal pole Logan used in his attack is apparently used to attach equipment to beds. "This was very out of character. We're talking about like a salt-of-the-earth kind of guy," Schnell said.
Hospital officials told KARE11 that prior to his attack, Logan was suffering from paranoia.
