Pharmacist Shoots and Kills Masked Thief Holding Store at Gunpoint
An attempted robbery of Good Family Pharmacy in Pinch, West. Va. last week was foiled after a pharmacist drew his concealed weapon and fired three shots at the armed suspect, killing him.
Surveillance footage released by Kanawha County police shows Terry Gillenwater, his face covered, holding staff at gunpoint; moments later, pharmacist Don Radcliff pulls his own weapon and guns Gillenwater down. From West Virginia Metro News:
After one shot struck Gillenwater's shoulder, the assailant continued to point his gun. A second shot hit Gillenwater's gun in the muzzle and disabled it. Gillenwater continued to point and try to shoot, but a third shot put him down. Radcliff and others immediately rendered first aid, before Gillenwater died at a Charleston hospital.
According to the Charleston Gazette, Gillenwater, 25, had drug charges deferred last December to seek a treatment program for addiction. WCHS reports police will not charge Radcliff for the shooting.
"Why did you make me do this?" pharmacy employees told the paper Radcliff said to Gillenwater after he fired. "I didn't mean to do this."
