Philly Dad-Daughter Team Caught on Video Beating Man With Baseball Bat
A Philadelphia father and daughter pair were caught on a surveillance camera beating a man with a baseball bat and then firing at him with a gun as he ran away one night last week. The 62-year-old father and 36-year-old daughter allegedly yelled, "You know what you did!" before the attack.
The South Philadelphia duo, Rita D'Amato and Carmen D'Amato, turned themselves in on Friday night. Police say that the D'Amato family is well known in the area and the victim initially claimed that he didn't know them and that this was a random attack. According to ABC6, many neighbors in the area are "holding their judgment" until a motive has been released, adding that there had been several car break-ins in the area recently.
Some neighbors are holding their judgment until they find out the motive.
"I'll tell you the truth, if the guy was breaking into cars, he deserved to get hit with a baseball bat - I agree with that. But if it wasn't him, God bless the D'Amatos," said Stephen Foster.
Video of the attack can be seen below, from which the victim escaped with two gunshot wounds to the leg. Carmen D'Amato remains in custody on $350,000 bond while his daughter posted bail and has been released.
