According to MLive.com, investigators have determined that the $10 million federal lawsuit filed against Uber this week, supposedly by Kalamazoo shooting suspect Jason Brian Dalton, is fake.

“He said he has no idea what it is,” Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas said. “He said he didn’t send it, didn’t authorize it, doesn’t know who did.”

The two-page, hand-written letter mailed to Michigan’s Eastern District Court in Detroit and attributed to Dalton alleged that “Uber treats their drivers like crap” and “Uber discriminates against my mental health.” From MLive.com:

The lawsuit was mailed in an envelope that listed Dalton’s name and the Kalamazoo County Jail as a return address but the postmark on the envelope showed it was mailed to Detroit from Philadelphia, Pa.

“That’s what alerted us, the Philadelphia postmark,” Matyas said of his agency’s decision to look into the authenticity of the lawsuit.

In addition to speaking with Dalton, Matyas said investigators also did a comparison between Dalton’s handwriting and the handwriting on the lawsuit filing and determined the two are not a match.

Dalton, who reportedly told police that the Uber app on his phone “literally took over his mind and body,” is charged with six counts of murder, two counts of assault with intent to commit murder, and eight counts of felony firearm use in connection with the February shooting spree.
