Police: One Dead, One Injured in Nordstrom Shooting
According to Chicago police, a man shot and injured a woman before fatally shooting himself in a Chicago Nordstrom store on Friday night.
News affairs spokesman Hector Alfaro says police received a call about the shooting, which took place on the second level of the store, at 8:30p.m. on Friday. The AP reports the shooter, either the woman's current or ex-boyfriend, fatally shot himself and was found dead upon police arrival. The woman, a seasonal employee of the store, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Chief John J. Escalante, Chicago Police Bureau of Detectives, spoke to ABC Chicago:
"She was working up on the second floor when he approached her, fired one shot, which struck her. He then turned the gun to himself, shot and killed himself."
A spokesperson for Nordstrom released a statement about the shooting late Friday night:
"There was a shooting at our Michigan Avenue store this evening, involving one of our employees. Our employee has been transported to the hospital. We are actively working with the Chicago Police Department, as this is an open and ongoing investigation. Our store has closed and will remain closed until further notice. Our prayers are with our employee who was involved and those who witnessed this tragic event."
According to the AP, police say there was no threat to customers or other employees.
