Police Surround Man's House Over "Gun" That Turned Out to Be a Tattoo
A Maine man woke up to find his house surrounded by state troopers after being reported for walking around with a gun earlier that morning. He did have a gun, but it was tattooed on his stomach.
Norridgewock resident Michael Smith had come outside that day with his shirt off to yell at a tree removal company to get off his property. They did, and he went back to sleep.
Right after that, though, the tree removal crew reported him to police, apparently mistaking the tat on his waistline for an actually firearm. Troopers quickly surrounded Smith's home.
"Obviously it was a misunderstanding and he didn't have a weapon, but we had to respond to the initial report as if he did," a Maine State Police spokesman told the Morning Sentinel. "We take all precautions when we don't have the details."
"I got plans today. I didn't want to get shot," Smith told the paper.
The Man With the Gun Tattoo won't face any charges.
