Porn Moratorium Reinstated After Third Porn Actor Tests HIV-Positive

Another US-based adult film actor tested positive for HIV this week, making the unidentified performer the third porn actor to test positive in the last month. Adult film actress Cameron Bay tested positive at the end of August, and her boyfriend, actor Rod Daily, announced on Tuesday via Twitter that he also tested positive.

And, according to Michael Weinstein — who led the 2012 campaign to require condoms on shoots — there may be a fourth HIV-positive male performer coming forward soon.

Porn industry trade organization The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) has called for an indefinite moratorium on filming until the unnamed actor's partners can be tested.

The FSC instituted a week-long moratorium in August after Bay tested positive. The moratorium was lifted after all her partners tested negative. According to the FSC, the latest unidentified performer was prevented from performing due to Bay's moratorium.

"Because of these precautionary steps, the performer who has now tested positive for HIV, had not performed since BEFORE the first moratorium and was prevented from performing due to the required retest," said Dr. Sean Darcy in the FSC statement. "Therefore, no performers were exposed to a new risk of on-set transmission as a result of this latest case, or Ms. Bay's infection."

No moratorium was issued after Daily's admission because he was privately tested — the FSC only acts off of results obtained through the industry's screening system. Daily also works exclusively in gay pornography, where condom use is mandated.

Wow, you don't know much, do you? There are different strings of the infection. You are NOT advised to just fuck whoever has HIV because hey you both have it anyway, it's possibly the least healthiest thing you could do.

Someone picked up their thesaurus this morning and used it wrong, didn't they?
In any case you should really do some self reflection on why you feel people who have sex for money is wrong or degrading. The rate of STDs among porn actors is lower than the average population (it's just more highly publicized). Most actors have very low rates of mental heath issues and tend to enjoy sex much more that the average person. They are, in short, on average, much healthier all around than your average Joe.

Just sayin', bro.

I believe the word you were looking for is denIgrate. Please do not denigrate yourself by misspelling a word when you're trying to be preachy. Maybe you have never once in your life looked upon a remotely pornographic film and for that I say, sucks to be you. Anything else would make you a complete hypocrite. Lose-lose.

In reality, I am glad he has come forward and is honest, but his tweet was nothing short of a celebration. HIV takes an immense physical, mental, emotional, and economic toll on the individual body and the collective society. In the United States, people still die of AIDS. We are not in a situation where he is in the clear, despite his assertions. I encourage you all to look at what the drugs that keep HIV positive people alive do to their bodies. Tissue wasting is one that is most common and can be seen in a variety of porn actors who are HIV+. If you were to Google the Treasure Island Media actors and take a look at the lineup, you would be hard-pressed to not find someone who looks like they're knocking on death's door. They are almost all HIV+ and many glorify the use of drugs, so that just exacerbates their health problems. Their company, and the director of their movies, work to exploit their sex and drug addictions and profit from it. They have a very good business model as these men have nothing to lose but gain acceptance in this sub-culture that glorifies their illnesses and self-denial.

As for this actor, there is no need for a drumroll or a feeling of being particularly blessed to have gotten it. It is a tragedy, always, regardless of the means of transmission. His life will be closely monitored by doctors visits (few for the next few years and then as the drugs run out and the mutations build up, more and more frequent). Make no mistake about it: he has just gotten HIV and looks and sounds perfectly - or even above average - healthy (and sexy!) but that fades faster than it does for a similarly situated, but HIV negative, individual.

HIV status has a complicated history in the gay community, and there was (and still is in some places) fear that HIV positive status would be used to isolate and quarantine those who had it. Look at how poorly people who were sick with HIV/AIDS were treated in the 80's.

So, since there's so much baggage around HIV status, gay performers generally assume their partners are positive.

Ask me anything about gay porn. I've been associated with the industry for a long time.
