Rachel Dolezal Identifies as Medium Spray Tan
According to TMZ, Rachel Dolezal—the former Spokane, Wash. NAACP leader who lied for years about being black—is a frequent customer at Spokane’s Palm Beach Tan, where she gets spray tans to darken her skin. Well, of course. TMZ’s source says Dolezal prefers the “medium” shade of the Mystic Tan brand.
Dolezal has yet to cop to using spray tans or any kind of makeup to change her appearance, however. When Matt Lauer asked her yesterday on The Today Show about darkening her skin, she said, “I certainly don’t stay out of the sun.”
She also was clear that the way she presents herself is not “blackface”: “I have a huge issue with blackface. This is not some freak ‘Birth of a Nation’ mockery blackface performance. This is on a very real, connected level. How I’ve had to go there with the experience, not just a visible representation, but with the experience.”
Per TMZ, a spray tan package at Palm Beach Tan costs $60 a month.
