According to sources who spoke with NBC News, the Amtrak train that derailed last night in Philadelphia was traveling more than 100 mph when it crashed at a curve where the speed limit is just 50 mph.

The sources reportedly gathered the information from the train’s data recorder. The NBC story is backed up by the train’s final tracker data, which showed that it hit 106 mph. An Associated Press analysis of a surveillance camera near the curve estimates the train was traveling 107 mph.

Meanwhile, the train’s engineer has reportedly refused to speak with police and left the police station with an attorney.

UPDATE 3:13 pm: The NTSB, which in investigating the crash, has confirmed that the train was traveling over 100 mph.
