So it's come to this: In an effort to get patrons to interact with the people seated in front of them, one restaurant is offering a discount to customers who agree to abandon their smartphones for the entire duration of their meal.

To ensure eaters don't cheat, Beirut's Bedivere Eatery & Tavern requires that anyone seeking the 10% discount turn their phone over to staff before sitting down.

"Bedivere will give you 10% discount if you leave your phone in our custody & socialize," reads a sign that went viral last week on social websites.

The tavern, located just off the city's world-renowned Hamra Street, has taken to Facebook to celebrate the recognition of its "socially forward policy" by inviting both locals and tourists alike to "come get extra social with your friends at Bedivere."
