Shirtless Gunman Near White House Wanted to “Fire a Couple of Shots"
A shirtless man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after witnesses saw him attach a .45-caliber handgun to his belt near a Secret Service police booth outside the White House. Upon being taken into custody, the man, Christopher Briggs, reportedly told officers he was "was only going to fire a couple of shots if no one confronted me."
Luckily police did confront him. Besides one loaded gun, Briggs was in possession of two loaded 13-round magazines, 171 more rounds of ".45-caliber, hollow-point ammunition," and two hunting knives, according to NBC News.
Briggs was not carrying any license or permit for his gun, which is a mistake anywhere, but particularly in Washington, D.C., near the White House, while shirtless.
