Paul Ryan, who endorsed Donald Trump and might even vote for him when all is said and done, today proudly declared his candidate’s most recent statements as “the textbook definition of a racist comment.”

Trump spent the last week accusing a judge, born in Indiana, of bias due to his “Mexican heritage,” and the fact that Trump is an unabashed racist who has promised to build a wall to keep all the Mexican “rapists” and “drug dealers” out of his country.

“It’s absolutely unacceptable,” Ryan said about the candidate he continues to endorse. “I disavow those comments,” he said, emphasizing that although Trump’s comments were racist, they just weren’t racist enough for him to care.

Pressed on whether he regretted his own endorsement of Trump that came last week, Ryan added, “I regret those comments he made.”

“It’s absolutely unacceptable,” Ryan said. But he stood by by his support for the controversial business mogul. “Do I think Hillary Clinton is the answer? No I do not.”

Trump has not responded, so it’s impossible to say he’s not currently on the phone telling Ryan to stop hitting himself.
