Stevie Nicks Was Once Pregnant With Don Henley's Baby
Stevie Nicks is on a publicity blitz for a new album, and she didn't hold much back during a recent Billboard interview, confirming stories of prodigious cocaine use and an unplanned pregnancy with Eagles frontman Don Henley.
The 70's rock superbaby that almost was is an old rumor—Henley once told a reporter they had planned on naming the baby Sara before Nicks ultimately ended the pregnancy—but Nicks has never spoken about it publicly. According to writer Marc Eliot:
She became pregnant, and neither doubted Henley was the father. The "situation" was resolved quickly and quietly when Nicks, between tour dates, had an abortion. Although Henley did not try to force the issue, according to friends, she was deeply upset about what she considered his fast and easy consent to her decision.
But Nicks ended up confirming the rock-royalty baby story to Billboard, challenging Henley's conclusion that Fleetwood Mac's hit "Sara," off their album Tusk, was solely about their unborn child.
Had I married Don and had that baby, and had she been a girl, I would have named her Sara. But there was another woman in my life named Sara, who shortly after that became Mick's wife, Sara Fleetwood... [What Henley says about the song] is accurate, but not the entirety of it.
Nicks also circled back to her well-publicized cocaine addiction (which reportedly led her to have an affair with Mick Fleetwood after he married Sara), telling Billboard she decided to check into Betty Ford after a doctor told her she was about one line away from a brain hemorrhage.
