Planned Parenthood Shooter Identified as 57-Year-Old Robert Lewis Dear [Updated]
The man who went on a shooting spree at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was identified on Saturday morning.
The gunman, 57-year-old Robert Lewis Dear, entered the Planned Parenthood Friday, reportedly carrying an AK-47. According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, Dear shot and killed five people, including one police officer, and left nine wounded, including five police officers.
Dear surrendered after a standoff police around 5 p.m. The Denver Post reports that he says he was acting alone and is now cooperating with police.

Dear, lives in Hartsel, Colorado, but was previously a resident of North Carolina and is originally from South Carolina, according to KDVR-TV.
Dear had been arrested before, several times for traffic violations. In 2002, he was also charged with two counts of animal cruelty, but was found not guilty. In the same year, he was charged with being a “peeping Tom” and eavesdropping, but the charges were dismissed.

Vicki Cowart, the president of Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountains, issued a statement on Friday night saying Planned Parenthood’s heart “is broken.”
