This memo just went out to employees of B-to-B publisher ALM (formerly Incisive Media), updating them on the year to come. Furloughs are back, but the outlook is slightly less dire than last year. The full memo:

This memo went out this morning to employees of what was formerly called Incisive Media, and what will be now called (once again) ALM.

Nine people have been laid off at American Lawyer Media (now called Incisive Media). The cuts are all in the company's real estate group—about 15% of the total staff—including both editorial and sales positions. The company already laid off 42 people earlier this year.

Many members of your Gawker editorial team are not in the Gawker office at the moment. Why? Because the AC there is a crap shoot (or has been), and SOME PEOPLE don't want to take their chances in DANGEROUS HEAT like we have today. I'm in a coffee shop in Brooklyn, and I'm sweating here, too! But it's not just us; a trendworthy number of key media figures are facing air conditioning problems. The media cannot work like this!

Earlier this month, American Lawyer Media laid off 42 staffers across the board. The company is also "scaling back" plans to expand the scope of one magazine, and moving another to an all-digital format, according to an internal memo. One insider says all of the laid off people are gone, but a sense of nervousness still pervades the office. What, lawyers can't afford to buy magazines any more? Cheap bastards.
