Lunchtime Poll: What Drug Is Madonna On and Can We Not Have Any?

Rich Juzwiak · 07/05/12 11:00AM

That's Madonna performing "Like a Virgin" last week during an MDNA Tour stop in Berlin with tears streaming down her face. Why are tears streaming down her face? I don't know. She'd performed this song live for audience in this ballad style almost a dozen times at this point, and it doesn't seem that the song grabbed her like it did during this performance. (In other words, this doesn't seem to be a cry-every-night-at-the-same-exact-part Janet Jackson "Again" scenario.)

Wild Child Wanders Out of Forest: 'I Don't Know Who I Am'

Maureen O'Connor · 09/20/11 03:19PM

A mysterious "forest boy" presented himself at Berlin City Hall two weeks ago. The first words he spoke were English: "I'm alone in the world. I don't know who I am. Please help me." He is believed to be 17, and to have spent the last five years sleeping on the ground in a forest. His identity is a mystery.

Watch Thousands of Vehicles Literally Paint the Town

Last month, performance artist IEPE and an anonymous crew stopped traffic in Berlin's Rosenthaler Platz intersection and dumped 2,000 gallons of water-based, environmentally friendly paint onto the pavement. The intersection was then reopened. What happened? Find out in the video above. [via Architizer]

"You Have 3,893 Unread Messages"

Sheila · 04/28/08 09:09AM

Hallo! That's German for "I haven't checked my email in a week." Many a trend piece has been written about Americans' reluctance to take vacations. (The flip side of this, noted in the Sunday Times, is that they're going on vacation just totally buck naked.) Most are afraid of losing their jobs. Some are afraid of falling behind. Others have trouble letting go of what's happening back at the office. This does definitely happen, as evidenced by the actual angst I felt that people were covering Ryan Adams's blog without me. But it's OK. I dealt with my feelings by drinking many beers on the subway, totes legally. And it was good.

The Creative-Underclass Expats in Berlin, Again!

Berliniamsburg: everybody's doing it! The European sister of Williamsburg is perfect for a perennial trend piece on the antidote to gentrification: you know, just chillin' while being a beatiful loser or an artist or a creator in Berlin. (Even me. I'm so going on vacation in two weeks!) And then T magazine tortures us with photos of two stylish musicians in a Berlin apartment to stab for. As it turns out, "What New York was in the 80s, Berlin is now," is a cliche, according to an interviewee.
