With just a month left in his mayoralty, Michael Bloomberg gave New Yorkers one last look at what they'll be missing: Him disappearing during tragedies that happen to fall on holiday weekends.

Residents of Bermuda caught somewhat of a break when a "very large" Category 1 Hurricane Igor passed the island without making a direct hit. One resident told the AP: "We're certainly getting our money's worth in drama."

Hurricane Igor, which is still a Category 2 storm, is getting closer to Bermuda with winds of 110 mph, but one bar owner said people are undeterred: "I guess people are making the most of getting out and partying." [AP]

Unaccountable billionaire Mayor-For-Life Mike Bloomberg jets off to his massive Bermudan estate many weekends, where he plays golf, spends money, and zealously guards his privacy. That's what you get when you elect an unaccountable billionaire Mayor-For-Life, New Yorkers. Duh. [NYT]

While we wait for Harold Ford to explain how he's avoided filing a New York tax return while working in New York, he's preparing to jet off for Bermuda. To address a group that lobbies for tax evaders, er, avoiders.

Though the plan has been scuttled, Mayor Bloomberg was apparently going to send some detectives from the NYPD Gang Unit down to his weekend home, to help the local police out. (BTW, his weekend home is his mansion in Bermuda.)

Remember the Uighurs, the Chinese Muslims we picked up in Afghanistan and locked up in Guantanamo for years despite not having done anything? They are totally loving Bermuda!

The good people of Fox & Friends (which ones are Fox and which ones are the friends?) are outraged that their vacations might be endangered by four innocent men recently freed from years of wrongful imprisonment!
