Nicki Minaj Clarifies Her Iggy Azalea Shade

Rich Juzwiak · 07/02/14 12:10PM

Nicki Minaj has taken to Twitter to explain her side of her Best Female Hip Hop Artist acceptance speech from Sunday's BET Awards...or something. In case you need reminding, she seemed to be referring to her fellow nominee Iggy Azalea, when she said, "What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it." And then, just in case that didn't sound shady enough (Iggy is said to rely on ghostwriters), Minaj said, "No shade," repeatedly while posing and grinning.

Watch Nicki Minaj Throw Major Shade at Iggy Azalea

While accepting her BET Award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist tonight, Nicki Minaj made a none too subtle jab at one of her fellow nominees in the category, Iggy Azalea. You can see why: This is the first year since Nicki Minaj became a household name that she conceivably could have lost in the category, thanks to the obscene success of Iggy Azalea and her single, "Fancy." Nicki was looking to take home the category's trophy for the fifth year in a row. Would the BET powers that be who arbitrarily re-reward the rich, famous, and talented allow her to win again? That's about as close to suspense as you'll find on one of these shows.

Who Cried It Best: Soulja Boy, Kanye West or Beyoncé?

Last night's BET Awards featured a 20+ minute extravaganza tribute to Whitney Houston that included Mariah Carey talking about herself (...and Whitney), Monica blowing the doors off the place with a cover of "I Love the Lord" (from The Preacher's Wife) and Chaka Khan reclaiming the song that Whitney once made her own, "I'm Every Woman."

Here's D'Angelo's First Televised Performance in Twelve Years

The famously reclusive D'Angelo graced the stage of tonight's BET Awards. It was the first time he had been on TV in a dozen years. After doing a bit of his signature, "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," he ripped into a groove called "Sugar Daddy" and let it ride for a while. It's a fantastic performance in its own right, and it's really a good thing for pop culture to have funk of so dank a grade be the most talked about piece of music for a second. D'Angelo is back to solve all of our problems, all hail.

BET Awards Blooper Screws Chris Brown, So It's Okay

Hamilton Nolan · 06/27/11 08:57AM

Heartbreak and heartache at the BET awards last night! At least for celebrity presenter and self-described "Writer. Dance addict. Artist. MILF" Tiffany. See, she looked down on her little e-tablet (nice touch!) to read off the award winner and it said "Chris Brown," but on the Teleprompter they were telling her "Rihanna." Then Drake came up and accepted the award for Rihanna and then later they said actually the award was for Chris Brown after all. Ha. We're over it already Chris Brown, sorry!

Watch Joe Jackson Stoically Use His Son's Death to Plug a DVD

The Cajun Boy · 06/28/09 09:11PM

This is just awful. Earlier tonight CNN's Don Lemon interviewed Joe Jackson on the red carpet at the BET awards, where Jackson displayed indifference over the recent death of his son and then plugged some Blu-Ray disc he's peddling.
