The Inevitable Tropic Thunder Boycott is Here

ian spiegelman · 08/10/08 05:34PM

Tropic Thunder, the hilarious-looking movie-in-a-movie that has so far failed to score a boycott for featuring Robert Downey Jr. in blackface or Tom Cruise as reportedly the most offensive Jewish stereotype since... Well, I don't find those very offensive, so don't ask me. Anywho, Ben Stiller's character is an actor who failed to get an Oscar nod for portraying a "retard" in the film "Simple Jack". And that's what's getting the pic boy-the-fuck-cotted. "'Not only might it happen, it will happen,' Timothy P. Shriver, chairman of the Special Olympics, said of the expected push for a boycott." Because it's fine for actors to cynically go bobbing for Academy apples every year by playing a special character, but it's not okay for a comic actor to make fun of them for doing so.

Wack Ass Chris Brown Celebrates Wrigley's Evil Plan

Hamilton Nolan · 07/30/08 04:19PM

Oh look, it's a picture of bubblegum R&B singer Chris Brown shilling for the Wrigley corporation last night at a special event celebrating their secret plan to ruin all music forever and ever by turning it into undercover advertising. Here are some good brands of gum you may enjoy: Dentyne, Chiclets, Carefree, Ice Breakers, Stride, Trident, or Bubblicious. None of which are made by Wrigley! Every time you chew Doublemint, a pop artist gets wings and Tom Waits is stabbed with a fiery pencil right in his bellybutton. Boycott Wrigley for the sake of the children! [pic via Guest of aGuest]

Time Warner Workers Unite For Cafe Fairness!

Break out the picket signs, the corporate scabs, and the Woody Guthrie songs, because it's time for all the proletarians in the Time Warner building to unite for a good old-fashioned boycott! Of the exclusive, employee-only Park Cafe! According to a righteously angry email being passed among CNN employees on the 7th floor, "on April 1 (Next Tuesday) prices are going up, frequent diner cards are being eliminated and the place will now close an hour earlier at 2:30p every day. If ever a situation called for a BOYCOTT... THIS IS IT!" By god, I can almost hear Samuel Gompers and Big Bill Haywood clawing their way out of their graves to rush to these employees' assistance! So what are the workers fighting to protect? An inside tipster describes the Park Cafe's democratic atmosphere:

Freewebs president says, "Boycott Yahoo!"

Nick Douglas · 06/02/06 02:51PM

Shervin Pishevar, president of web hosting site Freewebs, called for a boycott on Yahoo in a phone conversation. Pishevar called me from an airport and chatted about the now infamous incident this week when he asked Yahoo CEO Terry Semel, "Would you have cooperated with Nazi Germany?" and Terry refused to say no. Among other things, Shervin said he wants to start a nation-wide boycott of Yahoo in America.
