Miriam Carey, killed by police Thursday after a car chase through Washington D.C., was suffering from post-partum depression. According to her mother Idella Carey, Carey “got sick” after giving birth last August and, because of her depression, had spent time in the hospital.

According to the New York Post, the driver killed in today's Capitol shootout was Miriam Carey, a Connecticut dental hygienist. Carey, who apparently has a permit to work in prisons, did not have a weapon in her car, and authorities have confirmed that only police officers fired shots.
