Mysterious Winning Bidder of Banksy Charity Auction Backs Out
Max Rivlin-Nadler · 11/10/13 10:27AMCapping his month-long residency in New York City, Banksy donated a work of art titled "The Banality of the Banality of Evil" to Housing Works, a charity that provides housing to the homeless and AIDS patients. The work was to be auctioned off to raise money for the charity, but in classic fashion for the reclusive artist, the auction devolved into finger-pointing and accusations, with the anonymous winning bidder backing out of their bid.

Rich Juzwiak · 02/11/13 11:40AMDon't say Honey Boo Boo never did anything for anyone. Last night's Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Christmas special devoted a lot of its time to the family's charity work, chiefly collecting a massive amount of toys for Wilco Luvs Kids, a local organization that helps distribute Christmas toys to needy families. Mama June's explanation of her own time of need was moving, as was her haul. I have only found these people endearing, but I imagine that it's getting harder and harder to hate them. They're good people. They treat each other kindly and they do nice things for strangers.

Robert Kessler · 01/26/13 05:30PMIn May of 2011, Texas approved the sale of those charming "Choose Life" license plates, featuring precocious, blue-haired crayon kids. Caity Weaver · 12/13/12 03:00PMThe best thing about celebrities is that as long as at some point some charity somewhere gets money, they can still be bought and sold like common chattel. This is especially convenient around the holidays, when the awkward rich, flush with cash and scant of social skills, start itching to give one another elaborate gifts.

John Cook · 11/09/12 02:30PMThe New York offices of both the New York Civil Liberties Union and the American Civil Liberties Union are located in the financial district. Their building on Broad Street was decimated by Sandy's storm surge and their offices likely won't be open for the foreseeable future. They could use your help.

Here's how you can most effectively help.
Wyclef Jean's Perverse Fraud of a 'Charity' Is No More
John Cook · 10/12/12 01:00PMYele Haiti, the self-serving charity that Wyclef Jean founded (with other peoples' money) to burnish his reputation, lay the ground for a self-aggrandizing run at the presidency of Haiti, keep his mistress employed, and pay himself generous performance fees, has finally collapsed under the weight of its own inefficiency and corruption. According to the New York Times, it has effectively ceased operations.
