Inside the Hazy Dido-Filled World of Charles Grodin

Joshua Stein · 11/21/07 10:00AM

The Observer's Spencer Morgan—who, some might say, resembles a young Charles Grodin—recently took the Metro-North train up to Westport, CT to meet the 72-year-old Beethoven star Charles Grodin. They ate seafood salad together and Grodin sang along to Dido's White Flag. "He turned the song up loud and a faraway look came over him. 'I know you think that I shouldn't still love you,' Dido began. Mr. Grodin sang along. Mrs. Grodin thinks her husband has an unhealthy obsession with the song." You know what else Grodin has an unhealthy obsession with? Himself!

Charles Grodin's Book Party Could Be Sad Or Amazing Or Amazingly Sad

Joshua Stein · 11/12/07 02:11PM

Tomorrow night, maybe stroke victim and aging actor-author Charles Grodin toasts his most recent book, "If I Only Knew Then...: Learning from Our Mistakes," at Le Cirque. Sure it's a closed party but think of the possibilities! This might be your only chance to see Mr. Grodin chatting with the "friends and friends of friends" who contributed to this instaclassic. Friends like Alan Alda, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Carol Burnett, Walter Cronkite, Rosie O' Donnell, Ben Stiller and Goldie Hawn—who penned her own bestseller, "A Lotus Grows in the Mud," in 2006. Or it could just be Mr. Grodin all alone in a Christmas sweater eating stuffed mushrooms in the back room!
